To the editor:
A recent letter to the editor claimed that we should not elect a socialist to the presidency because they want to tax billionaires and use the money to assist the poor among us. ("Our choice in this election: Democracy vs. socialism," letters column, Page A6, Oct. 15.)
Two points: First, there were in fact a couple of socialists who ran for president in the Democratic primaries, but they lost to a centrist, Joe Biden. Second, Since Trump’s tax relief package gave 88% of the tax cuts to the top 1%, perhaps it is fair for them to share some of that.
Since it has become obvious that voters prefer Biden, Trump has desperately tried to call Biden names, like socialist.The letter writer has fallen for that, but we should not.
