Vernon Township acquires new ambulance
Members of the Vernon Township Fire Department dry off the department’s new ambulance shortly after it was marked in service last week. The department held a dedication for the new apparatus, complete with a tradition in fire and emergency medical services known as a “wet down.” After members of the department dried the ambulance off, they pushed it into the bay at Vernon Township Fire Station 3 in Fortville. The ambulance is equipped with a power cot that has automatic lift capabilities, which will save paramedics from repetitive-use injury. Vernon Township Trustee Florence May says the majority of the department’s runs are for EMS, making the ambulance critical to operations.
