HANCOCK COUNTY — The Indiana State Department of Health reported Wednesday that a Hancock County resident has died from COVID-19, raising the county’s death toll to 44.

The resident was a man in his 60s who died on Oct. 5, according to the state health department’s online COVID-19 dashboard.

Hancock County also added 188 COVID-19 tests between Sept. 28 and Oct. 6, for a total of 24,828. Eleven new cases were added between Oct. 5 and 6, for a total of 989. The county’s seven-day positivity rate for all tests from Sept. 24-30 was 3.8% and its cumulative rate is 4.2%. Its seven-day positivity rate for unique individuals from Sept. 24 through 30 was 5.1%, and the cumulative rate is 5.8%

The state’s updated county metrics map indicated Hancock County continues to experience minimal community spread. Neighboring Henry County, however, is experiencing moderate to high community spread due to a large number of weekly cases attributable to congregate settings.

Indiana’s numbers Wednesday included 21,515 new tests administered and 8,990 new individuals tested between Aug. 11 and Oct. 6 for a total of more than 2.2 million and more than 1.4 million, respectively. Just over 1,300 new positive cases were added between Oct. 3 and 6, for a total of 128,227. Seventeen new deaths between Oct. 1 and 6 increased the state’s total to 3,500. The state’s seven-day positivity rate for all tests between Sept. 24 and 30 was 5% and the cumulative rate is 5.8%. The seven-day positivity rate for unique individuals between Sept. 24 and 30 was 9% and the cumulative rate is 8.9%.
