GREENFIELD
Ruth L. Cole (age 91) of Greenfield, Indiana passed away Wednesday July 29th, 2020 peacefully at her home.
Ruth L. Cole was born to Ruth Lavaughn Trees January 24, 1929 to Russell and Dorothy Bennett Trees of Warrington, Indiana. Ruth grew up in the Warrington area and graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1947.
Also in 1947 Ruth married Kenneth Griffin. That marriage ended in 1948. Ruth went on to attend college in Illinois for a year and then moved to Indianapolis where she worked several jobs before finding her place at Naval Avionics as a secretary for 33 years retiring from federal service in 1990. After retiring she worked in home healthcare for a number of years.
Ruth married her second husband Richard D. Hodges in 1956 until his passing in 1983. She later married William L. Cole in 1983 until his passing in 1993.
In Ruth’s life she made many memories from camping, horse riding and motorcycling with her husband Dick Hodges to traveling all over the United States, Meeting former President Carter and cruising to Alaska with her friend Leland Turner. Ruth was a fiercely independent soul always on the go, always happy and talkative, and loved animals and meeting people.
Although Ruth never had any children of her own, she has left a legacy of love and charity and memories with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Her 91 years on this earth was well lived.
Ruth was a member of Shiloh Christian Church near Morristown, Indiana.
Visitation will be at Stillinger Family Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday July 31, 2020 with a funeral following immediately after at the funeral home. Private family graveside services will be held at McCray Cemetery, Wilkinson. Masks are required to attend the visitation and service at the funeral home.
