GREENFIELD

Phillip Leroy Earlywine, age 87, of Greenfield, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020. He was born in Rush County on November 7, 1932 to Sherman and Zella Mae (Tackett) Earlywine. He served in the U.S. Army. Leroy married Shirley Faye (Coomer) in 1960 in Knightstown.

He worked for Chrysler for over 29 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1984. Leroy also worked for Hawk’s Tail of Greenfield for 34 years. He was a member of UAW #1111, Hawk’s Tail Country Club, Blue River Long Rifles, and attended Bethel Baptist Church. Leroy enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, boating, and riding motorcycles. He most of all loved spending time with his children.

Leroy is survived by his son, William Earlywine of Greenfield; step-son, Dale (Joan) Plummer of Greenfield; step-daughter, Cindy Gwin of Greenfield; nine grandchildren, Brian & Dustin Plummer, Amanda Anderson, Jessie Crocker, Elizabeth Gibson, Andrea and Billy Earlywine, Deborah Cleek; and Sarah Bogner; 15 great-grandchildren; and several great great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Earlywine; and three sisters, Linda (Tom) Baker, Midge Ellis, and Katie Castronovo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Zella Earlywine; wife, Shirley Earlywine; and a brother, Bob Knopp.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary. Dr. Randall Parker will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield with military rites presented by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard. As a reminder, masks are required in public indoor spaces as of July 27, 2020.
