NEW PALESTINE — The Southern Hancock School Board is looking for a new member.
Longtime school board member Craig Wagoner announced his resignation last week. He told the school board that he is moving out of the district.
Wagoner, whose term expires Dec. 31, 2022, has served on the board for seven years. The current board members will appoint the new member to serve to the end of his term; the seat will be up for election to a four-year term in November 2022.
All applicants for the position must be registered voters in the school district; be at least 21 years old; and have lived in the either board District 1 or 2 for at least three years. Those areas are in the western part of Sugar Creek Township, generally in an area bounded by U.S. 40, County Road 200W, County Road 600S and County Road 800W.
Wagoner, who attended Southern Hancock schools, was appointed to the board in June 2013 after Meghan Morrison stepped down a month earlier. He was elected to four-year terms in 2014 and 2018.
The board’s other four members, Matt Ackerman, Laura Haeberle, Brian McKinney and Dan Walker, will select a new board member during an open session.
Applications must be received no later than Thursday, Aug. 6. An executive session to discuss applicants will be held Monday, Aug. 10.
Interviews will then be held in an open board session on Monday, Aug. 17. The new board member will then be sworn in during a work session on Monday, Aug. 24.
Applicants for the position cannot be a current Community School Corporation Southern Hancock employee or have committed various crimes under Indiana Code 3-8-1-5.
People interested in applying for the position should send a letter of interest along with an application form to: Amber Rush, Board Secretary, 4711 S. 500 W, PO Box 508, New Palestine, IN 46163.
