HANCOCK COUNTY — Charges have been dropped against a Greenfield man accused of pointing a gun at a police vehicle in 2018.
Frank Overton, 50, was facing a Level 5 felony count of intimidation and a Level 6 felony count of criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon. The weapon turned out to be a BB gun.
Since his arrest, officials have debated his competency to stand trial, noting he had suffered a traumatic brain injury and also had a learning disability. Officials concluded a group home setting would be a better fit than jail.
The case was dismissed from Hancock County Circuit Court at the request of the prosecutor’s office on June 19.
In another county case from last week, Matthew Smith, 41, Connecticut, had a warrant issued for his arrest after he failed to show up in circuit court for sentencing on Wednesday, June 24.
Smith is facing four drug charges, including a Level 5 felony count of dealing methamphetamine; a Level 6 felony charge of possession of meth; a Level 6 felony count of dealing a controlled substance and a Class A misdemeanor count of dealing a controlled substance.
All the charges come from an incident in the county in July 2018, court records show.
