restaurant inspections April & May
The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.
April 2
Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant
Location: 1550 N. State St., Greenfield
Type of Inspection: Routine
Violations found: NC/R3 — floors in walk-in cooler, dish machine area and under equipment in corners have build-up of debris, debris on shelving in kitchen containers by mop sink and bottom shelves of prep table, to be corrected by June 1.
April 15
Los Maguelles Mexican Restaurant
Location: 222 S. Main St., Fortville
Type of Inspection: Routine
Violations found: NC/R — ice scoop needs to be stored in clean, protected manner, corrected; C — spray bottle with chemical needs to be labeled with common name, corrected; NC — repair leak of hose that supplies water to soft drinks, to be corrected by July 1.

Tour of Italy
Location: 5 American Legion Place, Greenfield
Type of Inspection: Routine
Violations found: C — spray bottles with cleaning chemicals were not labeled with common name, corrected.

Location: 15 W. Main St., Greenfield
Type of Inspection: Routine
No violations found.
May 26
El Jaripeo
Location: 38 W. Main St., New Palestine
Type of Inspection: Routine
Violations found: C — food in holding is being held at 53 degrees (needs to be held at 41 degrees or below), cook observed coming in from outside and not changing gloves or washing hands, corrected; NC — need to have thermometers in all refrigeration units, glasses are being stacked when wet, leaking pipe under three-compartment sink and leaking under dish machine, to be corrected by June 15; NC/R — handle of scoop used for chips in chips, corrected; NC — improper thawing of rolls of pork, corrected; C/R — hand sink located by the dish machine is blocked, corrected.
