In the Murray case, according to a probable cause affidavit, the New Palestine Police Department was summoned Saturday after a woman who lives on East Main Street said she needed help. She was suffering minor injuries and appeared to have been involved in an altercation when police found her.

The woman told officers she had been grabbed by the arm, throat and hair on different occasions, the affidavit said. Murray also would not let the woman leave the residence after a fight broke out and took her cell phone, the affidavit said.

She was finally able to make her way up the street to the McDonald’s restaurant in New Palestine, where police were called.

Murray appeared via video in Hancock County Superior Court 2 on Monday, May 11, where a not-guilty plea was entered. A cash bond of $2,500 and a no-contact order were set. He was not listed as an inmate on Wednesday, May 13. Murray has a pretrial hearing July 10.

In the Sharp case, according to an affidavit, Greenfield Police Department officers were dispatched to Riley Park one day in late April, where someone had heard a woman yelling for help.

In driving through the nearby Maple’s Mobile Home Park, an officer could hear a woman crying and asking for aid. The woman was sitting behind an apartment in the 500 block of Baldwin Street when police found her, the affidavit said.

The woman told officers a man had tried to kiss her when they were drinking in Riley Park and that he struck her and choked her when she tried to get away.

Sharp was not arrested until May 8.
