GREENFIELD
Francis J. Holzer, age 86, longtime Greenfield resident, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2020 at Majestic Care in Avon. He was born in Indianapolis on April 26, 1933 to Anthony P. and Christina (McNew) Holzer. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Indianapolis and received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer. Francis married Ruth A. (Huck) on December 29, 1956 in Indianapolis.
He worked as a chemist his entire life. He retired from Eli Lilly in 1990 and then worked for the State of Indiana Health Department and Indiana Department of Environmental Management. He was a past member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Greenfield and St. Thomas Catholic Church in Fortville. He was a member of Boy Scouts of America, Hoosier Kennel Club and Hoosier Great Dane Club, and he enjoyed creating stained glass
Francis is survived by his wife, Ruth Holzer of Avon; children, Margaret (Gary) Thomas of Lebanon, Jude (Debbie) Holzer of Council Bluffs, IA, Anthony Holzer (Kerri) of El Cajon, CA, and Kathryn (Kent) Lilly of Plainfield; eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Christina Holzer; brothers, Rev. Wilfred Holzer, Peter Holzer, Melvin Holzer; sisters, Helena Holzer, Marie Holzer and Leona Holzer.
