Tyler Combs walked away with $50,000 after finishing second in Friday night’s “Jeopardy!” College Championship, which aired at 7:30 p.m. on WTHR-TV (Channel 13).
The Greenfield-Central grad got off to a slow start but had the lead going into the first commercial break.
His finishing score of $14,600 in Friday’s competition wasn’t enough to catch the leader, Nibir Sarma from the University of Minnesota, who came out on top in both parts of the two-part championship – which aired April 16-17. Xiaoke Ying, a sophomore at the University of Southern California, finished second on Thursday and third on Friday.
In the end, Sarma accumulated $47,700 over the two-night event – compared to Combs’ cumulative score of $20,000 and Ying’s score of $14,000.
The dollar amounts were just a scoring system, however. Sarma walked away with the $100,000 first prize, Combs took home $50,000 and Ying took home $25,000. Not to mention unforgettable memories.
