County coronavirus total drops by 2

HANCOCK COUNTY — The number of COVID-19 cases the state has been tracking for Hancock County decreased by two on Thursday, April 16, for a total of 127.

The Indiana State Department of Health bases its data on COVID-19 cases and deaths on county of residence. Occasionally, counties of residence are initially recorded incorrectly and corrected later on. On March 21, what was initially reported to be Hancock County’s first recorded COVID-19 case was determined to actually be a resident of another county. Hancock County’s case total also dropped on March 31.

Hancock County didn’t record any new COVID-19 deaths Thursday, maintaining a total of six. There were 892 COVID-19 tests for which results have been received for Hancock County residents, up 21 from the day before.

Indiana’s positive case total Thursday was 9,542, up almost 600. Statewide deaths rose by 41, for a total of 477. Cases now stand at 51,115 after rising more than 2,700.
