CHARLOTTESVILLE — Eastern Hancock schools will closed for a second day on Thursday, March 5, as the district battles a flu outbreak that sickened dozens.
Schools were closed Wednesday, March 4, as the school disinfected facilities across its campus, which includes the elementary school, middle school and high school. Administrators also designated Wednesday as an e-learning day — the district’s first — so students could complete lessons online at home.
Superintendent David Pfaff said the e-learning setup appeared to go smoothly on Wednesday.
Amanda Pyle, principal of Eastern Hancock Elementary School, sent an email to parents at about 2 p.m. Wednesday announcing that the schools would be closed again on Thursday, March 5. All activities for Thursday also were called off.
“We are continuing our cleaning measures in the schools and buses and believe an extra day for students to stay home will prove beneficial,” Pyle wrote in her email.
