INDIANA — A variety of Girl Scout programs are available to central Indiana scouts in February and March.
Scouts are invited to celebrate Girl Scout Day from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Levi and Catharine Coffin State Historic Site, 201 U.S. Highway 27 in Fountain City. Attendees will learn why the Underground Railroad was instrumental in aiding freedom seekers, or runaway slaves, on their journey to Canada. See how Levi and Catharine Coffin used their home to impact the lives of more than 1,000 freedom seekers. Your visit includes a self-guided tour of the Interpretive Center and hands-on activities. Girl Scouts will earn a patch for their participation. Admission for members is $3; admission for non-members is $8 for Scouts and $13 for adults. Register to attend by Feb. 14 at 765-847-1691.
Scouts can work on the Space Science Investigator and Space Science Researcher badges on March 14 at the Indiana State Museum, 650 W. Washington St. Explore the vastness of space including the planets, solar system and the stars through hands-on activities. Indiana State Museum staff will guide attendees through the steps to complete the Space Science Investigator badge. Girl Scouts working on the Space Science Researcher badge will complete steps 1-3 and 5 at the museum but will need to complete step 4 on their own once the sun has set. The Space Science Investigator badge, for grades 4 and 5, meets from 10 a.m. until noon; the Space Science Researcher badge, for grades 6 through 8, meets from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is $12 for Scouts and $1 for adults. On March 28, at the Indiana State Museum, Scouts in grades 6 through 8 can earn the Outdoor Art Apprentice badge from 10 a.m. to noon, and Scouts in grades 11 and 12 can earn the Outdoor Art Master badge from 1 to 3 p.m. Register by March 14 for $12 at 317-232-1637. Adults are $1.
