Greenfield-Central defeats Westfield

The Greenfield-Central boys basketball team defeated Westfield 55-51 in overtime at home on Saturday night.

The victory improved Greenfield-Central’s record to 8-8 with Jake Cochran leading the charge.

Cochran scored a team-high 19 points on 6 of 9 shooting with five rebounds. Dylan Moles and Caleb Mundell both added 12 points each. Brady Mundell chipped in eight points, six assists and seven rebounds.

Greenfield-Central trailed 16-7 after the first quarter and 26-16 at halftime before outscoring the Shamrocks 30-20 to tied the game in regulation.

The Cougars’ win handed the Shamrocks their fifth loss of the season by overcoming a 21-0 run by Westfield in the first half.

The Cougars’ defensive efforts were led by Caleb Mundell, who had four steals, and Cochran who had two steals.

The defense held the sharpshooting Shamrocks to 17 percent in 3-point attempts.

Royals bounce back to .500 with victory

The Eastern Hancock boys basketball team rebounded from their loss against Lapel at home on Friday with a 58-53 road victory at Union County on Saturday.

The Royals improved to 7-7 on the season with a trio of double-digit scorers.

Landon O’Neal led the team with 20 points on 8 of 16 shooting, while both Cole Rainbolt and Brady Smith each had 10 points.

Cyrus Burton finished with six points and Zach Arnold added five points.

Eastern Hancock built a 32-27 lead by halftime and pulled ahead 51-40 entering the fourth quarter.

O’Neal shot 4 of 11 from 3-point range. The Royals were 11 of 28 from long range, including a 3-for-3 performance by Rainbolt, who also had seven rebounds.

Jacob Spaulding had four rebounds and two steals. Burton led the team with eight rebounds.

Marauders claim

first HHC victory

The Mt. Vernon boys basketball team snapped their Hoosier Heritage Conference losing streak with a 54-52 win over Delta in overtime on Saturday.

The Marauders improved to 7-8 on the season and 1-4 in the HHC.

Mt. Vernon led 26-20 at halftime and carried a 38-34 advantage into the third quarter before Delta charged back to tie the game 47-47 at the end of regulation.

Drew Walker paced the Marauders with 14 points on 5 of 9 shooting. Razhaun Wells had 13 points and Armon Jarrard finished with 10 points.

Walker converted 4 of 9 jumpers from 3-point range. Armon Jarrard had six rebounds and two assists.

Amhad Jarrard grabbed six rebounds, dished out four assists and had six points. Ryan Morris scored eight points and had six rebounds.
