GREENFIELD
Dorothy Elizabeth (Bonne) Orahood was born in South Bend Indiana. Her parents were Richard and Madeleine Bonne, who were Belgian immigrants.
Dorothy graduated Noblesville High School in 1938 and graduated from Indiana Central College in 1942, where she met and fell in love with her intellectual partner and husband, Charles Arbon Orahood, now deceased.
She later earned her Masters in English Literature, and later her Library Science from Ball State.
Dorothy taught English and girls Physical Education at Wilkinson High School in Indiana, and later became English Chair and Librarian in the Warren Township Schools, Indianapolis. She was honored at her alma mater, now the University of Indianapolis, as one of the first female certified Physical Education teachers in Indiana. Her college letter sweater is enshrined in their college athletic hall of fame.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout Europe and the Middle East throughout their 64 years of married life. She taught Sunday School classes for many years and continued her love of learning and reading for her entire life. She spent many happy years in her gardens with the ability to recognize and name all her many plants and trees.
She is survived by two sons; Jim (Rene) Orahood of Noblesville, Doug (Susan) Orahood of Cicero and brother; Richard Bonne of Greenfield; 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She will be missed by family, 30 years of students and her many church friends.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Charles and sister Madeleine McGinnis.
Friends may call 10-11 a.m., Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. Funeral service 11 a.m. with Pastor Mike Manning officiating. Burial immediately following at Park Cemetery, Greenfield.
