Group to audition for ‘Mermaid in Miami’
GREENFIELD — KidsPlay Inc. children’s theatre will hold auditions for third- through eighth-graders for its fall production of “Mermaid in Miami” from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 20 for returning KidsPlayers and Aug. 22 for new auditioners at the Memorial Building, 98 E. North St. Ernie is a lonely old fisherman until he meets Breeze the mermaid. She has just escaped from the cruel underwater kingdom of Emperor Tropico and hopes to enjoy her newly found freedom. But Ernie’s lagoon isn’t enough for her. She spies handsome Rico practicing for a dance competition and decides to become human. To pursue her dream of becoming a dancer, Breeze makes a deal with the cruel-hearted Swamp Hag. Other cast members include dolphins, hermit crabs, Rico’s assistant and back-up dancers. Parts are available for 27 speaking roles and 12 dancers. New auditioners should come prepared with an audition monologue of one minute or less. Rehearsals for the production will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Performance dates are Nov. 8-10. ‘The Grinch’ closes out free film series

Hancock4Kids offers Family Fun series
GREENFIELD — Hancock4Kids will play host to an evening of free family fun from 6:30 to 8 p.m. July 25 at Riley Park Pavilion at the corner of Apple and Main streets.
