Participants can paint a peace pole for their yard or garden.

GREENFIELD — Back by popular demand, artist and calligraphy specialist Rachel Holmes, from Indie Art Studio, will offer a second peace pole workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 19, at the Twenty North Gallery, 20 N. State St.

For a $20 registration fee, participants can create a hand-painted peace pole to plant in a garden or front yard.

A “peace pole” is a hand-crafted monument that displays a message and a prayer, such as, “May Peace Prevail on Earth,” — usually in different languages — on each of its four sides. Peace poles can be found in more than 180 countries all over the world. They serve as constant reminders for people to visualize and pray for world peace.

Participants will take home a 4-by-4-inch post varying in height from 3 to 5 feet. Examples will be provided, but participants are encouraged to find pictures and the wording they would like to add to their poles. All materials are supplied. Visit hancockcountyarts.com to register online.
