Coffee shop opens downtown

GREENFIELD — Porter Coffee recently opened at 9 N. State St.

The cafe offers a menu of espresso-based drinks, pour-over coffee, French-pressed coffee and teas. It will have cold brew and kombucha in the near future.

Greenfield is the store’s second spot after starting Porter Books & Bread in Fort Harrison State Park almost four years ago. Owner Will Worley said the new location provides the larger space he needs for roasting coffee beans for the store’s drinks and wholesale product line.

Porter Coffee is open 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The cafe will share the space with 42 Bakery, which continues efforts to move in.

Tech company expanding

GREENFIELD — A Greenfield-based company that makes sensors and conducts wireless monitoring is moving into a bigger office downtown.

Sonicu makes wireless sensors that monitor temperature, humidity, sound and air pressure differential using a cloud-based platform.

The company currently operates out of 17, 19 and 21 W. Main St. It’s moving about a block away to 9 American Legion Place, formerly Patriot Insurance.

CEO Nick Tuttle said the new space will give Sonicu the room it needs to continue growing. The company nearly doubled its staff to 14 this year.

Sonicu plans to move into its new space by the first week of October. A remodel is under way to remedy water damage to the building.

Most of Sonicu’s clients are in health care, Tuttle said. The company’s sensors monitor temperatures for medicine storage and rooms that need to maintain certain environments for procedures like surgery.

Sonicu also has clients in manufacturing and food service.

Commercial buildings planned for Cumberland

CUMBERLAND — A developer has plans for two commercial speculative buildings on Cumberland’s Hancock County side.

Dennis Barker of Indianapolis is eyeing a lot west of Maaco Collision Repair & Auto Painting, which is near U.S. 40 and County Road 700W, for the two 4,900-square-foot structures.

The Cumberland Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance needed for the project in June.
