Fourth of July festivities set

HANCOCK COUNTY — Two Hancock County communities plan to put on fireworks shows this week to celebrate the Fourth of July.

In Greenfield, fireworks begin at dusk on Thursday. Visitors can gather for the show near Greenfield-Central Junior High School, off North Franklin Street, according to the city’s website.

The Independence Day celebration in Fortville begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday with a parade and vendors at Landmark Park, near Staat and School streets, according to the town’s website. The festival, sponsored by the Fortville/McCordsville Chamber, will have a kids zone, entertainment, food and more.

Also at 5 p.m. Saturday in Fortville, at the intersection of Mill and Noel streets, Fortville Action Inc. will host live music at a town block party. The Corey Cox Band will perform from 5-7 p.m., and Big Roscoe & the Hammers will play from 7:15 to 9:30 p.m. Food trucks and vendors will also gather for the event.
