The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

April 25

Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant

Location: 1550 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R2 – need to have certified food handler as full-time employee, to be corrected by June 1; C – dish machine is not sanitizing at the correct concentration, chip baskets must be cleaned and sanitized after customer use, knife must be cleaned with no debris before being stored on magnetic strip, corrected; NC/R2 – clean coolers interior/exterior/doors/handles, shelving for clean equipment, racks and legs, dish machine, shelf under grill to remove debris/grime/build-up, to be corrected by June 1; NC/R – need to have sanitizing test strips available and used, to be corrected by May 10; NC/R – do not store ice scoop in ice, corrected; NC – faucet leaking at prep sink and bar, to be corrected by June 15; NC – paper towels must be available and used at hand sink, corrected; NC/R2 – repair lights where bulbs/rods not working properly, repair/replace coving throughout kitchen/dish area, replace wood shelving, repair hold in wall, complete fiberglass reinforced plastic wall surfaces where partially done (half wall and throughout), replace broken floor tiles throughout kitchen/dish area/walk-in cooler, stainless steel needed on wall near grill, to be corrected by June 15; NC/R2 – clean floors/walls in kitchen behind equipment, floors/walls behind shelving, racks prep tables, floors/walls behind grill, clean hood wall, ceilings tiles, vents, floors/walls behind three-compartment sink, mop sink walls, to be corrected by June 15.

Cortona’s Italian Cuisine & Wine Bar

Location: 209 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – must wash hands and change gloves when changing tasks, corrected; C – must store potentially hazardous foods correctly in coolers, to be corrected by May 1; C – lasagna at 57 degrees (must be held at 41 degrees or below), corrected; NC – thaw shrimp properly (either in running water or under refrigeration), corrected; NC – water leaking from equipment across floor, hand sink faucet in kitchen is dripping, to be corrected by July 1; NC – clean mixer and slicer after use, to be corrected by May 1.
