FORTVILLE

Mary Kathryn (Mitchell) Johnson, age 79, of Fortville, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Allisonville Meadows. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa on February 5, 1940 to Chancellor and Mary (Birlingmair) Mitchell. She graduated from Arsenal Technical in 1957 and attended beauty school.

She managed the Brookside Airport in McCordsville for many years and was also the office manager at Ross Funeral Home in Fortville. Mary was a member of Westland Friends Church in Greenfield. She loved airplanes, gardening, dogs and cats.

Mary enjoyed sewing and made all of her children’s clothes, coats and Carolyn’s wedding dress. She also crocheted for Angels for Hope.

Mary is survived by her children, Debby (Gary) Zink of McCordsville, Carolyn (Bill) Knauer of Indianapolis, and Beth (Kevin) Golden of Zionsville; five grandchildren, Bily (Katherine) Berry IV, Ivin (Angie) Henz, Chancellor Henz, Logan Elizabeth Henz, and Tyler Lee Clever; four great-grandchildren, William Berry V, Charles Berry, Ivan Robinson Henz II, and Madelyn Henz; and her friend and caretaker, Wayne Hershman of Fortville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chancellor and Mary Mitchell, former spouse and father of children, Gilbert Ray Sprecher, and former spouse, Daniel Wallace Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 124 E. Staat Street, Fortville, IN 46040. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019, at 12:00 p.m. at Westland Friends Church, 6980 E. 300 S., Greenfield, IN 46140. Pastor Paul Bravard will be officiating. Burial will follow at Westland Friends Cemetery in Greenfield.
