Eighth-grader wins state essay award

Brenna Bastin, daughter of Brandee and Nick Bastin of New Palestine, was named the state winner of the eighth-grade essay contest from the Indiana Women’s Education Foundation in Richmond. The theme of the essay was “The woman who has influenced me the most,” and she wrote the essay about her mother. Brenna Bastin received a plaque, certificates for winning both her district and the state contest, and a monetary award. Brenna Bastin is an eighth-grade student at New Palestine Junior High. Her mother is the tobacco initiative coordinator for Hancock Health and is also a member of the New Palestine Town Council.
