Parks offers Potter’s Wheel workshops

GREENFIELD — Adults interested in learning to use a potter’s wheel to create ceramics can attend the Potter’s Wheel workshops Tuesdays through Dec. 18 from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Patricia Elmore Center Art Studio, 280 Apple St. The cost is $8 for residents and $10 for non-residents per session. Those planning to attend should call ahead at 317-325-1459 to reach the Art Studio and let the instructor know you are attending.

Homemakers provide free I Can programs

GREENFIELD — Hancock County Extension Homemakers announces free I CAN programming for the community. On Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Park Chapel Christian Church, 1176 E. Mackenzie Rd., the presentation will be “How to Make Three Meals and a Soup from a Rotisserie Chicken.” Participants will sample the three meals and a soup and take away recipes. On Nov. 12, the program is “How to Make Homemade Bread.” Participants will taste a sample of bread and take home a recipe of actual dough, a mixing bowl and a spoon for future use. Child care is not available at these sessions.

Local author to teach at writers’ conference

MUNCIE — A one-day writers’ mini-conference, “Reaching Your Writing Goals,” is scheduled for Saturday at the Ball State University Alumni Center, 2800 W. Bethel Ave. Hosted by Midwest Writers Workshop, Inc., the event is open to fiction and non-fiction writers of all experience levels. The agenda features breakout sessions led by three successful East Central Indiana authors, including Greenfield author Sarah J. Schmitt. Programs include sessions on craft improvement (finding stories, plotting, character development) and the business of writing (hooking an agent and writing a book proposal). Additional authors presenting at the mini-conference are Kelsey Timmerman and Annie Sullivan. The program also includes a panel question-and-answer session and a book celebration for Timmerman’s newest release (“Where Am I Giving?”), Sullivan’s debut novel (“A Touch of Gold”) and the paperback release of Schmitt’s novel “It’s A Wonderful Death”.
