Joan Quillin Gerrish, 87, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2016. She was born April 27, 1929, in Indianapolis to the late Brommell and Garnet (Tarrant) Quillin.
Joan worked as a Deputy County Clerk from 1958 to 1973 in the Marion County Court system and was an Indiana Bell Yellow Pages manager for 16 years retiring in 1989, to care for her mother. She was the first woman ever elected to the Lawrence City Council serving two terms. Joan was an independent candidate for mayor in Lawrence in 1987. Joan enjoyed reading, crosswords, astrology and cooking.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Kathy (Bennie) House, Susan (Fred) Strong both of Greenfield, Kevin (Clovia) Gerrish of Fort Worth, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her loving partner George (Jock) Spuzich; son, Michael Gerrish; parents, listed above; and brothers, Paul and Billie Quillin.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 West Main St., Greenfield, IN 46140. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery, 9350 East Washington St., Indianapolis.
