Hershel H. Fairchild, 75, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 27, 1940, in Russell Springs, Ky., a son of the late Fount and Minnie Bell (Slagle) Fairchild.
He owned and operated Henry County Livestock Auction after 55 years in the livestock business. Hershel enjoyed playing cards, watching sports, traveling and going to Hardee’s. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Donna (Clapp) Fairchild; three children, Doug (Paige) Fairchild, Kim (Ed) Smith, both of New Castle, and P.J. Fairchild (Ginny Shafer) of Tampa, Fla.; three grandsons, Brent (Kristen) Fairchild, Brice Fairchild and Derek (Britney) Chew; brother, Dave Fairchild of New Castle; sister, Ollie (Bill) Lee of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, A.J. Fairchild, Wallace Fairchild, Dewey Fairchild, Parker Fairchild, Bob Fairchild, Dean Fairchild, Gene Ray Fairchild, Glenn Fairchild and an infant brother; and sisters, Glenna Fairchild, Gladys Nosler and Onley Huffman.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 16, at the funeral home with Rev. Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition.
