Charles Harlan Roberts, 91, a lifelong resident of Hancock County, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday morning, Jan. 14, 2016. He was born to the late Harlan and Edna (Sweezy) Roberts on July 17, 1924, in Greenfield.
His family is direct descendants of Isaac Roberts, who was one of the first families to live in Hancock County. He married his wife Virginia (Pratt) Roberts in February of 1950. He worked at Mechanical trade as a licensed plumber, where he retired from. Charles enjoyed playing his steel guitar for family and in public. Nothing lit up his life like his grandchildren, he loved every moment of each of them.
Charles will be greatly missed by his three daughters, Janet Goldsworthy, Sherry (Dan) Gilmore and Edna “Lu”(David) Jones; a son, Kenneth (Mary) Roberts; a brother, David Roberts; six sisters, Andrea (Eddy) Macy, Thelma Middleton, Helen (Wayne) Brooks, Ethel (Don) Harshman, Linda Hornaday and Marcia (Paul) Scott; 13 grandchildren; several great- grandchildren and five great- great- grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Wendell, Thomas, James and Jack Roberts and a sister Beverly Swafford.
Friends may visit from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016. Services for Charles will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday Jan. 18, 2016, at Heritage Funeral Care in Knightstown. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery with Pastor Ryan McCarty presiding.
