GREENFIELD — Two men are in jail accused of dealing drugs after police found more than 100 painkillers in their car during a traffic stop last week in Fortville.
Christopher Ryan Jackson, 29, of Fishers, is in Hancock County Jail on a $10,000 bond. He was charged this week with dealing a controlled substance, a Level 2 felony, and maintaining a common nuisance, a Level 6 felony. He also faces charges of possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor and possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor.
Tyrone Johnson, 25, of Indianapolis, is in Hancock County Jail on a $15,000 cash bond after being charged with dealing a schedule II narcotic, a Level 2 felony; possession of a narcotic, a Level 6 felony; possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor and possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor.
Jackson was a passenger in a vehicle police stopped Dec. 30 in Fortville because the car’s headlights weren’t on as it traveled along Broadway Street, police said.
When an officer approached the car, he could smell marijuana, according to court records.
During the traffic stop, police learned Johnson, who was driving the car, was wanted on drug charges by police in Marion County and had a suspended license; he was arrested, and police found heroin and marijuana in his pocket, according to charging documents.
Jackson admitted to police during the stop there were drugs in the car, including marijuana that was in his backpack in the back seat, according to court documents. Police searched the car for drugs and found narcotics and marijuana in the backpack, court records state.
Officers searched the car further at the police station and found 90 pills of oxycodone and 60 pills of hydrocodone, both prescription painkillers, stashed in the center console; they also found $3,750 in Jackson’s pants pocket, according to court records.
Both men pleaded not guilty to all charges. A Level 2 felony charge carries a penalty range of 10 to 30 years and up to $10,000 in fines. The Level 6 felony carries a 6-month to 2.5-year jail sentence and up to $10,000 in fines.
