Emmett William Newcomb, 92, passed away at Spring Hill, Fla., on Jan. 3, 2016. He was born in Franklin, Ind., on June 5, 1923, to the late William E. and Montie (Palmer) Newcomb.
Emmett graduated from Knightstown High School. After his marriage, he enlisted in the Navy and served at the Great Lakes Naval Center during World War II. After leaving the Navy, he worked for Delco-Remy and retired after working 32 years as a machine repairman. Upon retirement he and his wife, Eileen lived in Wilkinson, and spent winters in Florida until his death.
Emmett loved gardening and worked his farm in Wilkinson for more than 50 years. He excelled at maintaining and repairing his farm equipment and vehicles, and was a talented mechanic. He and Eileen enjoyed traveling and spent many happy weeks in their motor home with friends, often visiting bluegrass festivals to take in their favorite form of music.
Emmett is survived by his loving wife, Eileen, whom he married on April 16, 1943. Emmett is also survived by his sister, Dottie King. He is lovingly remembered by his children and their spouses, Ginni and Ron Zapf, Barbara and Jay Williams, Robert and Jean Newcomb, Jim Newcomb and Paul and Kalynne Newcomb. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Emmett was predeceased by his parents; his brother and sister; two grandsons and daughter-in-law.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service, 7355 South St ate Rd 109, Knightstown, Ind. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, with Pastor Mark Herbkersman officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery.
