William D. “Sleepy” Fry, 92, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield. He was born on April 12, 1923, to the late William C. and Clara E. (Pfiefer) Fry.
Sleepy was a life-long Hancock County farmer who had also worked at Brookside Corporation, Laughner’s Cafeteria and Kentucky Fried Chicken. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church, a two-term Hancock County Commissioner and a member of the Eden F & AM Lodge No. 477. Sleepy enjoyed woodworking, antique tractors, mowing the lawn, gardening and puzzles.
He is survived by wife Mary C.”Cat: (Lane) Fry, whom he married Nov.18, 1946; children, Kenneth (Jerri) Fry and Dennis (Kathlene) Fry both of Greenfield; Donna (Steve) Durack of Fortville; five grandchildren, Jenny (Christopher) Barnes, Noel (Jeremy) Hatcher, Mindy (Nick) Vanlaningham, Jill (Kevin) Prefontaine and Daniel (Matthew Grindle) Durack; 10 great- grandchildren; four great- great- grandchildren.
Sleepy was preceded in death by grandson, Ryan Fry; sister Ada Marie Martin and brother, George Robert Fry.
Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. A celebration of Sleepy’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
