Arthur “Art” Short, 79, of New Palestine, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at Hancock Regional Hospital Hospice. He was born on March 11, 1936, in New Palestine as the son of John W. and Jeanette (Wilkins) Short. Art graduated from New Palestine High School in 1955. He married Ann (Skaggs) on Aug. 22, 1958, in Indianapolis.
He worked for International Harvester for 40 years before retiring in 1993. Mr. Short was a member of UAW #98. He loved spending time with his wife and family, listening to country music and working in his garage. He also enjoyed working on antique cars and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Art is survived by his loving wife, Ann Short of New Palestine; son, Ricky (Jan) Short of Greenfield; daughters, Ramona Short of New Palestine, Melanie Larrabee of Greenfield and Melissa (Mike) Heidenreich of Fishers; brothers, Donald (Sandra) Short and Bill (Betty) Short both of New Palestine; sister, Donna (Dick) Maupin of New Palestine; six grandchildren, Lacey Keller, Katie Keller, Kristen (Randy) Boughan, and Patrick, Nolan and Sydney Larrabee; one great- granddaughter, Autumn Long and five stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Jeanette (Wilkins) Short; brother, Richard Short and son-in-law, Patrick J. Larrabee.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, 2015, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, also at the mortuary. Pastor Rick Moreland will be officiating. Burial will follow at New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine.
