Dragons fall by 2 strokes to Noblesville
The New Palestine girls golf team nearly beat the 16th-ranked Noblesville Millers with a strong showing Wednesday, coming up a little short 169-171.
Mackenzi Black shot a 39 to lead the No. 15 Dragons for the third straight day. New Palestine earned back-to-back wins against Southport and Greenwood as the team faced three matches in three days.
The Dragons are 2-1 on the season heading into today’s New Palestine Invitational at Hawk’s Tail. The eight-team event begins at 1 p.m.
“We made our second trip up to Harbour Trees in two years and handled the challenging course much better,” New Palestine head coach Gregg Greene remarked on Wednesday’s match. “Last time, with mostly last years state qualifying team, we shot 199. The improvement this week from just Saturday has been encouraging.”
New Palestine competed at the State Preview at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel last weekend and struggled. Since the season opener, they have thrived.
Cassidy Harp had a tremendous day in Noblesville, firing a 42. Cassie Rooks carded a 44 and Carly Jones had a 46.
