GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Commissioners voted Tuesday to approve a revised agribusiness ordinance.
The updated rules allow for a variety of events on county farms, including historical re-enactments, rodeos, turkey shoots, musical events and tractor pulls, generally with no permit from the planning department or notice to neighbors required.
County leaders began reworking the ordinance more than a year ago. The new language was met with resistance from members of the community who thought the wording was too vague and from farmers who thought it was too strict.
“It’s not written in stone; if further revision is necessary, we’ll go back to the drawing board and continue to work on this (to make it) more workable for the farming community and the citizens of the county,” county planning director Mike Dale said.
