Greenfield-Central grad wins javelin competition

Greenfield-Central graduate and Wabash University junior Matt Dickerson won the javelin competition at the All-Indiana Division III Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship Saturday at DePauw University.

Dickerson won the javelin with a throw of 52.43 meters (172 feet). He was one of 10 Wabash champions to lead the Little Giants to their third straight All-Indiana title.

Dickerson also finished ninth in the long jump and 15th in the 110 meter hurdles and 400 hurdles.

Rainbolt named newRoyals volleyball coach

Cory Rainbolt was approved as the Eastern Hancock varsity volleyball head coach at Monday’s school board meeting.

Rainbolt was an assistant last year for head coach Kevin Adams, who resigned after two seasons.

Rainbolt (formerly Pepperworth) was a volleyball standout at Greenfield-Central and IUPUI and is a member of the Jaguars’ Athletic Hall of Fame.

Run to Remember honors lost lives

The Third Annual Run to Remember will be May 9 at Greenfield-Central High School.

Cost is $25 for adults, $15 for students. Packet pick ups and registration is 7:30 a.m. race day, with the race beginning at 9 a.m.

A Run to Remember was conceived by the families of Zach Lett, Todd Lewis and Benjamin Culver, three young men whose lives were cut short. All race proceeds are equally divided between the Greenfield-Central High School track and field program and the memorial scholarships of Zach Lett, Todd Lewis and Benjamin Culver.

Cheerleading camp offered by Cougars

The Greenfield-Central High School cheerleading program will host a mini-camp from June 1 to 3 at the Greenfield-Central Fieldhouse.

The camp is open to participants that are incoming kindergarten through Grade 6. Registration begins at 3:30 p.m., and the camp will run from 4 to 6 p.m. A performance for family and friends will conclude the camp at 5:30 p.m. June 3.

Cost is $50; register by May 15 to receive a free T-shirt and bow.

Swim club hosting sign-ups, tryouts

The Greenfield Community Swim Club is conducting summer swim season walk-in registration and tryouts 5 to 6:30 p.m. today and Thursday at the high school pool.
