The Mt. Vernon tennis team opened its season Thursday with a 3-2 loss at Pendleton Heights.

The Marauders’ doubles teams came away with straight-set wins, as Addison Eads and Emily Annakin triumphed in their No. 1 doubles match (6-3, 6-2), while Brianna Partin and Kendra Eberhard won the No. 2 match (7-6, 7-6).

“That was a tough first match against the No. 3-ranked team in the district,” Marauders’ head coach Gabe Muterspaugh said afterward.

Mt. Vernon’s JV team defeated Pendleton Heights 10-1.

The Marauders get back on the court Tuesday when they host Franklin Central.

The Cougars have now been rained out two nights in a row, including Thursday against Alexandria-Monroe. They hope to play Monday when they are scheduled to host Hoosier Heritage foe Delta.
