Buck Creek sets auditions for performance of ‘Bee’

INDIANAPOLIS — Buck Creek Playhouse will conduct open auditions for “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” by William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin on Monday and Tuesday.

Director Scott Robinson is looking for a diverse group of four females and five males 16 or older who will be playing both adults and children for this Tony Award-winning musical comedy.

Bring 16 to 20 measures of a prepared song (or verse and a chorus) in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided. You might be asked to read from the script. All roles are available. Production dates are weekends June 5 to 21. Bring a list of all conflicts from April through June.

Performing arts scholarship available to local seniors

INDIANAPOLIS — Buck Creek Players is now accepting applications for the Blaine Jarrett Memorial Scholarship.

Any graduating high school senior or college freshman who is currently enrolled or accepted into a performing arts-related program at a college or university is eligible to apply.

Majors/minors that will be considered include: dance, theater performance, technical theater, instrumental music, vocal music or related field.

Recipients will be based on the applicant’s participation, accomplishments and involvement in the performing arts in the central Indiana region.

Recipients will receive a minimum scholarship of $1,000.

Applications can be downloaded from the website at buckcreekplayers.com. Applications must be postmarked no later than Tuesday to be considered.

Pinterest inspires workshop using nature at state park

ANDERSON — Create a nature-inspired centerpiece Saturday during a workshop at Mounds State Park at 4306 Mounds Road.

Participants will craft a Pinterest-style centerpiece using a recycled wine bottle, twigs, paint, twine and other rustic materials.

Hourlong sessions will be offered at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. All supplies will be provided for a $5 fee.

Ages 12 and older are welcome. Advance registration is required by calling 765-649-8128.
