Ernest G. Tidrow, Jr., 94, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 03, 2014, at Kindred Transitional Care, Greenfield. He was born Sept. 11, 1920, in New Castle, Ind., to the late Ernest G. and Pauline K. (Fletcher) Tidrow.

Ernest was a 1939 graduate of New Castle High School, attended Indiana University and Butler University where he played basketball for legendary coaches Branch McCracken and Tony Hinkle. He graduated from Butler University with his Master’s in Education. He was Principal at Greenfield Central High School for 25 years, Jefferson Twp. Schools for 8 years, a teacher and coach at Tipton High School prior to his retirement in 1986. He served in the Navy during WWII as LT. J.G. Commander on LST 719.

He was a member and former Elder and Deacon at Greenfield Christian Church, member Lambda Chi Alpha at Butler, Indiana Teachers Association, an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving him are son, Ronald (Susan) Tidrow of McCordsville; daughters, Jeannine (Bill) Wright of Brooklyn Ind., Jennifer (Randy) Kelly of Fishers; grandchildren, Ryan Reed, Robb Reed, Rhett Reed, Richelle Reed, Quinn Dobbins, Corey Cronk, Patrick Tidrow, Shawn Tidrow, Michael Tidrow, Tim Stone and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Alice (Spillman) Tidrow.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, IN 46140. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at the funeral home with burial to follow at South Mound Cemetery, New Castle, Ind.
