Gladys Louise Melton, 82, of New Palestine, died July 31, 2014, at her residence. She was born on June 29, 1932, in Loudon, Tenn., as the daughter of Fred and Carrie (Brown) Akins. She married Jack E. Melton on May 1, 1953, in Greenfield.
Gladys is survived by her brother, Larry (Catherine) Akins of Loudon, Tenn.; sisters, Ethel Dawn of Indianapolis and Freida (Dave) Rogge of Houstonville, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents, Fred and Carrie Akins; daughter, Cheryl Ann Melton Burnett; sisters, Ruby Smallen, Ann Franklin and Carolyn Harold; and an infant brother, Paul Akins.
Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service, beginning at 11 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Aug. 2, 2014, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. Pastor Carl Coffey will be officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
