Ronald “Ron” H. Ashdown, 74, of Greenfield, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at his home. He was born September 21, 1939, in Fremont, Ohio, the son of the late Leslie and Lillian (Dunham) Ashdown.
After graduating from the University of Cincinnati, he served four years in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany where he met his future wife. He worked for the Department of Defense at Fort Harrison as an Accountant for over 30 years prior to his retirement. Ron was an avid bird watcher, loved to read and garden as well as spend time walking his dog.
He is survived by his son, Glynn L. (Wendy Binion) of Cumberland; daughter, Diana (Bryon) Hartzog of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Kirsten Jackley, Kaitlyn, Madison and Justin Hartzog all of Indianapolis; and his constant four-legged companion, Hope.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ute (Eberhardt) Ashdown in 2008.
Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, IN 46140. Burial with full Military Rites provided by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard for Ron will be private.
