Elnora "Elly" Myers, of Greenfield, passed away on Tuesday, Nov.20, 2012, after several years of declining health at the age of 81. She was the third of three daughters born to Raymond and Anna Smith. Born May 20, 1931, in DeKalb County, Ind., she spent her childhood in Garrett, Ind.
She graduated from Garrett High School in 1949 and attended Indiana University in Bloomington. Elly married Clayton E. Myers on Sept. 30, 1951. Following the birth of their four children and a series of moves around central Indiana, Clayton and Elly moved to Greenfield in 1961, where Clayton assumed a teaching; football and track coaching position at the high school.
When her children were young, Elly worked part time as an Avon Lady and later took a position as a case worker for the Head Start program for Hancock County. In 1975, she became the secretary for the Greenfield Chamber of Commerce, where she remained until her retirement in 1991. Among her many contributions to the Chamber and the greater Greenfield community was her major role in coordinating and managing the Riley Days festival each October. She was a proud member of Tri Kappa, a philanthropic sorority in Greenfield and a participating member of a home economics club named U & I. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of a bridge club for many decades. In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family at their cottage on Irish Lake in Kosciusko County outside of Warsaw.
Elly is survived by her husband, of 61 years, Clayton; her son, Daniel of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.; daughters, Deborah of Broad Ripple and Diana of McCordsville; and her son, Donald of Fishers. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Hunter Myers of Dayton, Ohio, and Lindsay Myers of West Lafayette. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Muzzillo of Winona Lake, Ind.; and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Mary Lou Trainer.
Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Erlewein Mortuary on Friday, Nov. 23, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at the funeral home and will be conducted by the Reverend John Paulson of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield.
