Edward E. "Ed or Gene" Floyd, 67, of Pinellas Park, Fla., a former Shelby County resident passed away Monday, June 11, 2012, at Major Hospital.
He was born February 14, 1945, in London, Kentucky, he was the son of Birchel O. and Tabitha Muhaska Floyd.
He graduated from Morristown High School in 1963.
Mr. Floyd retired from the Army in 1992, after serving in Vietnam and Iraqi Freedom during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He was a Master Sargent and received three purple hearts.
Mr. Floyd was a member of the Morristown American Legion and the Pinellas Park American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He loved to fish and collected many things including guns and Christmas lights. His grandchildren were the joy of his life.
Survivors include his mother of Morristown; sons, Edward E. (Tammy) Floyd, Jr of Greenfield, Rex A. Floyd of Tampa, Fla., and Joseph Dean Floyd of Terre Haute; daughter, Regina G. Floyd of Safety Harbour, Fla.; brothers, Birchel O. Floyd, Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Dale B. Floyd of King, N.C.; sisters, O. Louise White and Margaret L. "Renee" Lowe, both of Clearwater, Fla.; grandchildren, Felecia, Shelby, Sarah, Sabastian, Jessica, Courtney and Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Elmer H. Floyd.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. Morristown, Ind. Funeral services will be at noon at the funeral home, with Rev. Gary Jones officiating. Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery. Immediately following the graveside service, a potluck dinner will be at the American Legion in Morristown.
