M. Inez Hayes, 95 years, a resident of Greenfield passed away Wednesday night, April 11, 2012, at Hancock Regional Hospice Unit, Greenfield. She was born on Aug. 26, 1916, in Pike County, Ind., to the late Claude Corn & Elva (Taylor) Corn-Chambers.
Inez was a graduate of Velpen High School, member of Greenfield Christian Church and the Greenfield Christian Church Spirit Sowers and Rebekah Circle. She was also a member of the Eden Order of the Eastern Star 101 and the Gleaners Home Economics Club. As a licensed cosmetologist for 10 years she owned and operated her own beauty shop. She was an avid reader, gardener and loved to cross-stitch.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Russ) Hayes Hodgkin of Pittsboro, Ind.; son, Philip (Pam) Hayes of Wilkinson; three grandchildren, Brandon (Becky) Hayes, Warren (Michelle) White, Wayne White; five great grandchildren, Jeremy, Kristen, Emily, Sydney, Aubrey; step-grandchildren, Teresa (Jeffrey) Susong, Craig (Lynn) Hodgkin; step-great grandchildren, Tyler Susong, Trevor Susong; Elaina Hodgkin, and Kelsea Hodgkin.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987, Martin L. Hayes, who was the former Indiana State Highway Commission Executive Director and her brother, Gerald Corn.
Friends may call on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2012, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel of Greenfield. Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Velpen, Ind.
