Ruthanna Fenter, age 88, of Greenfield, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011. Born on Sept. 12, 1923, in Hancock County, she was the daughter of William and Bertha (Rabe) Spier.

Ruthanna graduated from Mt. Comfort High School in 1941. She married Malcolm G. Fenter on Aug. 4, 1946. Ruthanna earned her Associates RN degree from the IU School of Nursing in 1970. She most recently worked at Community East Hospital and at Twin Brook Nursing Home. She had previously worked at Mt. Comfort School as a secretary and at Greenfield Bank as a teller.

Ruthanna was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Palestine. She was also a member of Zion Circle and Ladies Aid, 4-H (leader), the Hancock County Homemakers Association, Grow and Share Garden Club, and Ladies Reading Club. She had also been a Brownie Scout leader.

Surviving her are her children, Darvin (Judy) Fenter of New Palestine, Mary Beth (David) Schwan of Rapid City, S.D., Kathleen (Joe) Mitchum of New Palestine, Jeanette Goben of Greenfield; grandchildren, Angie (Jeff) Hardy, Chris (Richelle) Fenter, Rob (Cassie) Fenter, Bethany Weaver, Annette (Nick) Hill, Jennifer (Eric) Kolonich, Ben Mitchum, Greg (Jessica) Mitchum, Anna, Abigail, and Viktor Goben, Rod (Delilah) Hare, Angie Johnson; and 21 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and great-granddaughter, Veronica Fenter.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church in New Palestine, with additional visitation taking place from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.
