Evelyn Ballinger Knox, age 85, of Greenfield, passed away on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011. She was the daughter of L.I. and Ida (Blackwell) Ballinger and was born in Boston, Ind., in 1925.
Evelyn graduated as Valedictorian, with honors, from Converse School in Indiana in 1943. Evelyn managed an Arabian horse farm in Hancock County for 49 years and was responsible for raising champion purebred stock for show, endurance, and racing. She was a well-respected member of the Arabian Horse Association.
Evelyn married John W. Knox in 1945, and they had three sons, James “Jim” Knox, Thomas (Lois) Knox of Bloomington, and Michael (Rebecca) Knox of Greenfield. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Thomas (Lois) Knox, Michael (Rebecca) Knox; two sisters, Betty Pearson of Anderson, Pat Ballinger of Rockville, Ind. Evelyn is also survived by five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; son, Jim; and her brother, J.R. Ballinger.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will follow at noon, also at the mortuary. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery.
