Steven E. Hicks, age 58, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on October 25, 1952 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Ed and Virginia “Ginny” (Bauer) Hicks.
He graduated from Harper Creek High School in Battle Creek, Michigan in 1970 and received his associates degree for radio and T.V. broadcasting in Chicago, Ill. in 1971. Steven married Penny Jean (Ledbetter) Hicks on August 2, 1975 in Battle Creek, Michigan.
He worked for WTHR Channel 13 in Indianapolis for 24 years and was the master senior control technician. He was an active Boy Scout in his childhood, a member and elder at Waters Edge Church in Greenfield, and a union steward with WTHR 13 for many years. He loved collecting moose memorabilia, listening to The Moody Blues, and camping.
Surviving Steven are his wife, Penny Jean of Greenfield; parents of Homosassa, Fla.; children, Kelley (Michael) Hicks Brinegar, Leslie (Charlie) Hicks Dickson, Justin (Lauren) Hicks all of Greenfield, Emily Begeman of New Palestine; siblings, Earl “Buck” Hicks of Phoenix, Ariz., Judi (Vern) Hicks Tribble of Alamogordo, N.M.; mother and father in-law, James and Margaret Ledbetter of Manistee, Mich.; brother and sister in-laws, Ronald (Terry) Ledbetter of Holland, Mich., Jim Ledbetter, Dian Ledbetter both of Manistee, Mich.; ten grandchildren, Zackary, Mason, Ashton, Evelyn, Lily, Makenzie, William, Morgan, Brennen, Ann; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2011 also at the mortuary. Pastor Ken Todd will be officiating, and burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
