Eugene L. “Jake” Faris, age 80, of Fortville. Born on March 1, 1931, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Eugene and Helen (Schooley) Faris.
Eugene married Dorys Lininger Kleinschmidt on June 19, 1982, in Indianapolis. He worked as a truck driver for over 50 years, 19 of which were at Farber Distributing. Mr. Faris served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict from 1950-1954 and served on the USS Missouri. He was a member of American Legion Post 70 in Shelbyville, the VFW in Fortville, and the USS Missouri Association. He was also an avid woodworker that enjoyed making gifts for friends and family.
Surviving him are his wife, Dorys Faris; children, Larry D. (Judy) Faris of Indianapolis, Jan R. (Randy) Reid of Indianapolis, Karen L. (Mark) Mutz of Plainfield, and Jane K. (Fred) Miessen of New Palestine; sister, Norma J. Crosby of Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, Amy, Andy, Shelby, Kasia, Megan, Jessica, Kristine, Matthew, Derrick, Scott, Jacob, and Macy; nine great-grandchildren; three nieces; and one nephew.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a daughter, Trenda L. (Richards) Kocher.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 12, from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral service will be on Monday, June 13, at 12:00 p.m. at the mortuary with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial with military rites will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
