Leon Eugene Davis, 91, formerly of Morristown, passed away on May 8, 2011 at Ashford Place in Shelbyville, Ind. He was born in Hancock Country on July 7, 1919 to Horatio and Venice (Curry) Davis.
He was a 1937 graduate of Westland High School. Leon retired from J.R. Wortman Co. of Morristown in 1996 as an HVAC contractor. After his retirement he spent several years working at the Grover Museum.
He was a member of the Morristown Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Morristown Masonic Lodge #193, 50-year member of Morristown American Legion Post #102, and a past president of the Morristown Lions Club. He was a WWII veteran of the Army. He served in the 1st Armoured Division in Africa and Italy.
Leon loved repairing items and attending grandchildrens' activities. He was involved in his community and was an avid reader.
He is survived by son, Douglas E. (Aimee) Davis of West Chester, Ohio; daughter, Linda (Jack) Skillman of Shelbyville; sisters, Velma Wortman of Morristown and Helen Jean Kilby of Southport; grandchildren, Douglas C. Davis, Liam Davis, Andrew Skillman, Brian Skillman, and Grace Pauline Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Waneta (Wallace) Davis, who he married in 1946; and two brothers, John K. Davis and George Davis.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home in Shelbyville, funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Graveside military service will be conducted by local veterans organization. Masonic service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on May 11, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
