Bobby Lee Edwards, age 83, of New Castle, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, May 7, 2011 following a long and courageous fight with cancer. He was born July 22, 1927 in Seymour, Ind., a son of the late George S. and Gladys (Eacret) Edwards.

Bobby retired in 1989 from Knightstown High School as instrumental music teacher after a total of 38 years of teaching. He was a 1945 graduate of Seymour High School and Olivet Nazarene University in 1951 with a B.S. degree in Music Education. He graduated from Ball State University in 1963 with an M.A. degree in Music Education. He also taught at Crothersville High School for seven years during the 1950’s. He had taught at Worthington High School and Sand Creek High School at Westport and at Carthage. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during World War II. He and his wife served many Nazarene churches as Minister of Music, Song Evangelist and Ministers of Christian Education. He was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and the AARP. He was a member of Westview Church of the Nazarene. He loved southern gospel music and was a large promoter of it.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his sons; Stephen Duane (wife, Sara Ann) Edwards of Russiaville, Ind., Reverend Phillip (wife, Sara Jane) Edwards of Fortville, Ind., and Reverend David (wife, Tina) Edwards of Paden City, West Virginia; seven grandchildren: Brian (wife, Michelle), Isaac, Carla (husband, Mike), Jacob (wife, Jenni), Amanda (husband, Ethan), Miriam (husband, Brad) and Angie; ten great- grandchildren: Hailey, Allison, Brian Jr., Amy, Drew, Matthew, Jessie, Tyler, Caitlyn, and Meleah.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ladonna Edwards in 2006; infant daughter, Janice Diane; and an infant brother, Francis Edwards.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Westview Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Paul Riddle officiating assisted by Dr. Ted R. Lee. Military services will be conducted by the American Legion and the VFW. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday, May 9th at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
