Donald J. Durant, age 85, of Greenfield, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011. He was born May 22, 1925, to the late Paul Edward and Marie (Maples) Durant.
Don received his undergraduate degree from Nyack Bible College, and received his Master’s from University of Indianapolis. He was an accomplished pianist. Don married Eileen Holzhausen, and was the owner and operator of Hoosier School Supply Co. for 39 years, retiring in 1991.
Don was a former member of Amity United Methodist Church, and a current member of Heather Hills Baptist Church. He served as organist & pianist for a combined 56 years for both churches. He served on the Mt. Vernon School Board for 11 years, and was a member of the Indianapolis Rotary Club, and the National School Supply Association.
Don enjoyed his 1923 “Durant” car, and his 1931 Ford Model “A”, and was a member of the Indianapolis Model A Car Club.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Eileen Holzhausen Durant; children, Janice (Wayne) Hatoway, Mary (Donald “Bing”) Crosby and David (Tara) Durant; and grandchildren, David and Emily Crosby, Matthew (Chelsie) and Michael Hatoway.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at Heather Hills Baptist Church, 1421 N. German Church Rd., Indianapolis. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, with visitation one hour prior to services.
