Lawrence E. Targett, age 51, of New Albany, Ohio, formerly of Greenfield, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his family. Born Dec. 31, 1959, in Greenfield.

He was a 1978 graduate of Greenfield Central High School, and received his BS in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1982. In 1973 he became the youngest Eagle Scout in Ind., creating the Riley Trail and designing the trail medal and guide book. He was Senior Program Leader at Owens Corning, where he was known as “The Safety Guy”, was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering, and was named inventor on several patents. He was a member of Vineyard Christian Church in Pataskala, and was founder of the Nature Connect Group there. He enjoyed camping, fishing, canoeing, travelling, geocaching, and old school rock and roll. Most importantly, he was a loving husband, wonderful father, and a compassionate friend to those privileged enough to know him.

Survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Melinda Targett; daughter, Aileen Targett, New York City; parents, Everett & Margaret Targett, Greenfield; sister, Sandi Hobble, Jamestown, Ind.; nephew, Jordan Hobble; niece, Cory Haley; faithful companion, Ruby; and several cousins.

Preceded in death by his daughter, Miranda Nicole Targett in 1993.

Friends may visit from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 550 Hill Road N. (St. Rt. #256), Pickerington, Ohio. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at Vineyard Christian Church, 9286 York Road SW, Pataskala, Ohio, with Pastor Brian Burd officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Rest Memorial Estate in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
